About the Project
The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is inviting applications for 2 PhD positions focused on numerical simulation and modeling of THz devices, as part of a collaborative research effort with TU Vienna. The positions may be embedded in a 4-year PhD program funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
The selected PhD students will join an interdisciplinary team working at the forefront of THz electronics, contributing to next-generation wireless communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research in the field of THz electronics
Develop and apply numerical simulations for modeling THz devices
Present findings at international scientific conferences
Publish results in peer-reviewed journals
Complete a PhD thesis
Participate in outreach and administrative duties related to the doctoral program
Candidate Profile
Required:
Master’s degree in Physics, Applied/Numerical Mathematics, or a related discipline
Solid understanding of high-frequency electrical engineering or the physics of electronic/optoelectronic devices
Strong English communication and writing skills
Team-oriented with problem-solving abilities
Passion for research and scientific exploration
Preferred:
Experience in numerical simulations of ODEs/PDEs
Knowledge of applied mathematics or machine learning techniques

Duration: Until Fall 2029
Weekly hours: 30 (approximately 75% FTE)
Location: Based at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, with collaboration at TU Vienna
