About the Position

 

 

The Department of Marine Technology at NTNU is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to conduct research on smart control strategies for marine hybrid-electric power systems. The project addresses advanced marine cybernetics for improving the efficiency, autonomy, and environmental performance of maritime vessels.

 


 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

 

  • Design and development of control algorithms for energy management and propulsion systems

  • Modeling and simulation of marine hybrid-electric power systems

  • Integration of cyber-physical systems for real-time control

  • Contribution to experimental validations and system implementations

  • Participation in NTNU’s structured PhD research training program

 

 


 

 

Required Qualifications

 

 

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in control engineering, cybernetics, or closely related fields

     

    • Background in marine technology or power systems is preferred

    • The degree must be equivalent to a five-year Norwegian program (120 ECTS at master’s level)

    • Master’s students in the final phase of their studies may apply, but the degree must be completed before the position begins

     

  • Strong academic performance (grade B or better)

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)

 

 


 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

 

  • Experience in:

     

    • Marine electric propulsion systems

    • Model predictive control or advanced control theory

    • Simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink or similar platforms

    • Hardware-in-the-loop or real-time simulation environments
