PhD Opportunities at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) – Start Fall 2025 / Spring 2026
Dr. Pengfei Li, Incoming Assistant Professor at RIT iSchool, is recruiting 2–3 fully funded PhD students to join his interdisciplinary research group. Students will work at the intersection of AI, sustainable computing, decision-making systems, and algorithmic fairness.
Research Topics:
- Trustworthy Online Algorithms
- Learning-Augmented Algorithms
- Sustainable AI and Environmental Impact
- Social and Environmental Fairness
- Future areas: Reliable Generative AI, Health-informed AI systems, Decision-focused learning
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong mathematical and/or electrical engineering background
- Self-motivated, curious, eager for interdisciplinary research
- Prior publication is appreciated but not required (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML)
- Experience or interest in AI, algorithms, or decision systems
