PhD & Postdoc Opportunities – Gene Therapy & Protein Engineering
Location: Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore
Lab: Smith Lab, School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
Dr. Sheena N. Smith’s newly established lab at NTU is recruiting 2 PhD students and 1 postdoctoral researcher for cutting-edge research in precision gene therapy using modular viral and virus-like particle (VLP) delivery systems. The group focuses on applications in neuro-oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, and immune modulation.
Postdoctoral Opportunity – Neural Gene Therapy
Start Date: From July 2025 or as soon as possible
Responsibilities:
- Design and in vivo evaluation of viral vectors for CNS delivery
- Work with murine models for neurodegenerative disease or brain cancer
- Use confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and neural tissue prep
- Support student training and lab management
Requirements:
- PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or related field
- Expertise in rodent handling, gene delivery, protein biodistribution
- Prior experience with viral vectors (e.g., Ad, AAV, LNPs) preferred
Funding: Fully funded for one year
PhD Opportunities – Protein Engineering & Gene Therapy
Start Date: From July 2025 or as soon as possible
Topics:
- Engineering new gene delivery vectors and protein adapters
- Combining synthetic biology, molecular cloning, and directed evolution
Requirements:
- BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Biotech, or similar
- Experience in protein engineering, gene regulation, or mammalian cell culture
- Familiarity with viral vectors and/or rodent models is a plus
Funding: Full NTU PhD scholarship for 4 years (tuition + monthly stipend)
