PhD Opportunity in Molecular Virology & Proteomics

PhD Opportunity in Molecular Virology & Proteomics

Location: University of Milan, Italy

Start Date: October/November 2025

Duration: 3 years

Funding: Italian Science Fund

Dr. Guido Papa’s lab at the University of Milan is recruiting a motivated PhD student to explore how viruses assemble replication factories using biomolecular condensates, focusing on Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The research combines molecular biology, CRISPR/Cas9, proteomics, and advanced microscopy to understand viral mechanisms at the molecular level.

Research Focus:

  • Viral replication and protein degradation
  • Proteome characterization of intracellular compartments
  • High-throughput data generation and CRISPR KO analysis
  • Drug discovery via novel degradation strategies

Ideal Background:

  • BSc or MSc in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields
  • Hands-on experience in cell culture, microscopy, and molecular techniques
  • Familiarity with proteomics and CRISPR tools

To Apply:

Send your CV and cover letter (highlighting your background and research interest) to: gp511@cam.ac.uk
