PhD Opportunities in Integrated Assessment Modelling

Two fully funded PhD opportunities are available at the University of Alberta to work on integrated assessment modelling using the GCAM-Canada system. The research will focus on:
- Evaluating carbon removal and reduction technologies
- Improving representation of building technologies
- Supporting science-driven net-zero pathway assessments
What is GCAM?
GCAM (Global Change Analysis Model) is a leading model that integrates energy, land, water, and economic systems to analyze global change scenarios. It is widely used by governments and institutions for climate-related decision making.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in engineering, computing science, or economics
- Interest in systems thinking, modelling, global change, and sustainability
- Experience in simulation modelling and computer coding
- Minimum GPA of 3.3 out of 4.0 in the last two years of study
- Demonstrated English language proficiency
Start Date: September 2025
Funding: Approximately 35,000 CAD per year
