Topic: Advanced Mass Spectrometry for tRNA Structural Analysis

The Gabelica Lab at the Section of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Geneva, is recruiting a PhD student to explore how covalent modifications influence tRNA structures using advanced native mass spectrometry techniques. This interdisciplinary research combines MS, ion mobility, top-down fragmentation, and molecular modeling to investigate RNA structure and function.

Project Highlights:

  • Develop innovative mass spectrometry methods
  • Study temperature-variable electrospray MS and ion mobility
  • Analyze the impact of tRNA modifications on structure and stability
  • Engage in cutting-edge research relevant to RNA biology and human health

Candidate Profile:

  • MSc in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or related fields
  • Interest in instrumentation, molecular analysis, and RNA research
  • Motivated, creative, and collaborative mindset
  • Good communication skills in English (French expected to be learned)

Conditions:

  • Full-time, salaried position
  • 4-year PhD program
  • Start date: as early as July 1, 2025
  • Teaching duties in analytical chemistry (in French)

Location: Centre Médical Universitaire, Geneva, Switzerland

Lab Website: Gabelica Lab

Application Deadline: Review begins May 15, 2025, open until filled.

To Apply: Email the following to Prof. Valérie Gabelica (valerie.gabelica@unige.ch):

  1. Completed application form (attached in the job post)
  2. CV
  3. Names and emails of two academic references

A unique opportunity to work at the intersection of analytical chemistry, structural biology, and RNA research in a world-class lab.
